Kapellet Genfortalt
2025
We (the architectural duo Hahn Lavsen, visual artist Rasmus Søndergaard Johannsen, and textile artist Marianne Noer) were selected in early 2025, following an open call, as one of three interdisciplinary teams to lead the transformation of the former chapel on the Frederiksberg Hospital site.
Through cleaning, repairing, and carefully working with the existing structure - masonry, floors, doors, and details - we, together with the two other teams, explored how the building and its garden could be given new life with as few additions as possible.
The result is a sensory architectural experience that points toward new, sustainable approaches to transformation with low resource consumption and great care.
The transformation was open to the public from 12 September to 31 October 2025. The building is designated as a cultural house in the new district currently emerging on the former hospital grounds.
